Nomura Samurai House's Garden

A warrior's home with a memorable garden

When the Maeda lords moved into Kanazawa in the late 16th century, they brought with them numerous retainers who settled in the Nagamachi district, just south of Kanazawa Castle.

The home of one such loyal retainer, the Nomura clan, remains as a stellar example of Edo-era architecture. While the home itself is very well-preserved, it's the garden that delights most visitors. Perfect landscaping and seasonal touches are enhanced by history - a few of the trees date back four centuries. A small tearoom sits up an old stone staircase and overlooks the serene property.
