Lapis Tokyo

Party in Tokyo’s high-end Ginza entertainment district

Lapis is a new nightclub which opened its doors in August 2017 within Tokyo’s high-end entertainment district Ginza. The club is immediately noticeable as you are walking down the streets as the bright neon-like colors shine out through the windows. Once you head inside, the entrance has a small reception available with some lockers and a ladies-only rest section.

The entertainment begins once you walk down the stairs in a futuristic blue area surrounded by mirrors. Downstairs you end up straight at the bar which has a nice variety of drinks available. Drinks vary from your regular beers and cocktails and include some fairly unique twists for a Tokyo club such as a Pina Colada. The special thing about Lapis is that in addition to the varied drink menu they provide snacks as well to keep you going through the long night. They have a popcorn machine, a cotton candy machine and on hot summer nights they also bring their barbecue out to grill sausages and more.

The club itself has a luxurious and futuristic Miami-vice atmosphere with a mixture of neon pink, blue and purple colors. Hanging led-sticks surround the dance floor, representing diamonds in the sky. These sticks light up the dance floor and show an occasional message to the crowd such as a surprise "happy birthday" message to a friend. Behind the DJ Booth, there's a big screen which shows video clips and other movies to complement the music.

The dance floor itself is cozy, but since you are in Ginza you do not need to expect the massive crowds that you would expect in Shibuya or Roppongi. During our visit, the dance floors had just the right amount of people to keep things fun while allowing you to navigate through and find your friends. Tables and seats are available for everyone in the back area to sit and take a rest. To the side of the dance floor are comfortable sofa’s reserved for VIP only. There are often perks such as dance performers hanging from the ceilings and shot girls walking around offering tequila and more. A reason people keep coming back is the great ratio between girls and guys, which is about 50/50.

What makes this club unique is that they have special events including free gifts. For example, a date night that encourages giving drinks to another with a free gifting coupon. Other nights they have “Lapis money” fall from the ceiling and each bill is 100 yen’s worth that you can spend at the bar. Stay tuned to Japan Travel for more info on the upcoming events.
