If your Japan trip overlaps with Golden Week, there's a hands-on way to experience the tropics without ever leaving Osaka. The Tropical Fruits Exhibition is taking place at Sakuya Konohana Kan, one of the country's largest botanical gardens, from April 29th to May 6th, 2026.

Set inside the lush surroundings of Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park, the event invites visitors to go beyond simply tasting fruit – you'll actually see how it grows. Around 40 varieties, including mangoes, lychees, bananas, dragon fruit, and even jaboticaba, will be on display in various stages of ripening. It's a rare chance to connect the produce you see in supermarkets with the plants they come from.

What makes this exhibition stand out is its interactive approach. Daily guided tours (with tastings included) walk you through the displays, while workshops let you try everything from Thai fruit carving to natural dyeing with banana leaves and even making Taiwanese aiyu jelly. It's designed for all ages, so whether you're traveling solo or with kids, there's plenty to get involved in. Please note that there are separate fees to take part in certain activities.

Beyond the fruit itself, the event also explores the cultures behind it. Expect exhibits and performances highlighting tropical regions like Malaysia, Taiwan, and Thailand, along with special dance performances from India and Tahiti on select days.

And yes, there's food! Fruit-based sweets, drinks, and food trucks round out the experience, making it easy to snack your way through the tropics.
